Act Three, Scene 1: Words and Weapons
Today, you are reading 3.1 in your book on your own. You should also read the script. Work to try to understand what happens in this scene. Use this blog to talk about what you think really happened and why. My goal is for you all to help each other build meaning. Use this blog as a place to ask questions and answer one another. You might also want to comment on the meaning of any lines you feel are very important.
Some questions to consider: Do you think Tybalt, Mercutio or Romeo expected any of this to unfold the way it did? Regarding the deaths, do you think those were entirely intentional? Who do you hold accountable and why? How does this change EVERYTHING? What do you think will happen as a result of 3.1?

I think the prince will do something because of there actions.
ReplyDeleteAlso someone from the house of Montaques will avenge him by killing Tybalt.
I don’t think this played out the way it was supposed to either because the fight wasn’t even meant for Mercutio.
I agree that mercuric didnt deserve to die
DeleteWho is the person that killed Mercutio
ReplyDeleteIn the text is says tybalt killed Mercutio
DeleteTybalt killed mercutio
DeleteR.I.P. mercutio 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
DeleteTo bad so sad
Delete"o Romeo, Romeo, brave Mercutio is dead" 3.1 Tybalt stabbed Mercutio and he said he was hurt but not as hurt as he really was and now is dead because he did not let on how hurt he was so now he is dead
ReplyDeleteI think Romeo thought that someone would probably have gotten hurt but not death
ReplyDelete———-w0t
Killed you mean?
DeleteDeath’d’st’ve?
DeleteTybalt killed Mercutio
ReplyDeleteAwww R.I.P.
Deletewhat house was the curse put on
ReplyDeleteMontaque I think?
DeleteI think tybalt wanted to kill Romeo or at least kill a montage because he wanted rEevenge
ReplyDeleteWho is the one who killed Mercutio
ReplyDeleteTybalt
DeleteTybaly
DeleteT y b a l y
DeleteRomeo killed Tybalt which is very surprising.
ReplyDeleteEspecially because it said earlier how Romeo would be doomed if he were to fight tybalt
DeleteI think Romeo will be blamed for the death of Tybalt and be forced to tell everyone about his secret marriage.
ReplyDeleteCool
DeleteI think Tybalt wanted to most likely
ReplyDeletewas it Romeo of Tybalt that did not fight out in the open
ReplyDeleteRomeo
DeleteWait Romeo killed taybalt rlly?
ReplyDeleteProbably
DeleteYeah
DeleteYoooooo
ReplyDeleteI noticed the scene opens with Benvolio saying, “good Mercutio, let’s retire”. Just a bit of some type of irony that Mercutio is then murdered in cold blood just minutes later.
ReplyDeleteGood one
DeleteThen does Romeo later die in the story?
DeleteI think Romeo is going to get blamed for starting the fight
ReplyDeletehe probably will
DeleteI agree
DeleteI beg to differ
DeleteOMG TYBALT COMMITED OOF!!!!!!!111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat’s not what happened
DeleteTybalt got clapped for real
DeleteWanna know what also not happened? Understanding the joke....
DeleteI don’t think Mercutios death was intentional, but Tybalts death was because Romeo was angry that he killed Mercutio
ReplyDeleteMercutios death seemed intentional to me
DeleteOmg mercutio commited oof too?!!!!!111!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭

DeleteI believe that Juliet will understand and won’t me mad
ReplyDeleteI think she will me mad because say I killed your close uncle you would
Deletewhy would she not be mad her husband killed a member of her family
DeleteI agree with Luis good point
ReplyDeleteI think that by the end of the scene, Tybalt will find out about Romeo and Juliet getting married. This will lead to a fight and somebody will die. Anybody who did not expect Tybalt coming and picking a fight to end in a fight would just be dumb so I do believe that all of the characters were not surprised by the way things unfolded
ReplyDeleteTybalt getting revenge will most likely end up with the prince intervening again like in act 1 scene 1
ReplyDeleteYeah
DeleteMercutio had someone go get help but he died before they got help.
ReplyDeleteI believe Shakespeare should have made the Prince into an important character due to the sheer amount of power he holds over both families rather than a way to spout exposition.
ReplyDeleteI think his place in the play fits him, royalty or powerful figures should wonder the streets all willy nilly. You get what I mean? He’s just there to loom over the actions of either the house and intervene when it becomes a threat to the public.
DeleteI think Tybalt will be held responsible because he was always the one who started fights. He killed Mercutio first, and that gave Romeo a reason to kill him
ReplyDeleteMercutio fought Tybalt and Tybalt killed Mercutio with his sword
ReplyDeleteWill Romeo be punished by the prince if he figures out that Romeo was the one that killed Tybalt?
ReplyDeleteBoth tybalt and mercutio dies.... 😭
ReplyDeleteWhat a fat RIP
DeleteHe got the 👏 for sure dude
DeleteMercutio put a curse on the house which is what he said before he was dead dead
ReplyDeleteI don't think Tybalt will get punished because of the fact that the book needs to keep going and be dramatic.
ReplyDeleteTybalt is dead
DeleteI think this fight will cause the Montagues and Capulets to become even worse enemies, and make it harder for Romeo and Juliet to be together
